cptenaud says:
The gap between the affluent and the poor is growing larger every day in this country and all over the world. The despair that accompanies poverty is seen by many as the primary cause of many of the world's most serious problems. Terrorism, disease, war, political unrest, hunger, malnutrition, polluted water, racial intolerance, crime, drug and alcohol abuse and suicide all can be traced to poverty.

Nothing will test the moral foundation of humanity more than how mankind addresses this issue and nothing will be more important to our physical and spiritual survival.

Nothing will test the moral foundation of humanity more than how
Individuals address this issue and nothing will be more important to our
physical and spiritual survival.

Individuals are the source of good. Humanity is the source of evil. Spiritual survival is an individual thing, though contagious. It cannot be gained through the actions of humanity. And, Humanity can take no credit for the actions of the truly decent people in this world that decide to act upon their moral compass and p...

One of the reasons the rich get richer, is because they target their peers. The poor are not a threat, but the domain of the rich is not somewhere that coming second means much. They acquire wealth through acquisitions, mergers, buyouts, bank auctions, as the money is divided amongst fewer people, the losers dropping out, or being rendered impotent. The pursuit of wealth when it gets to extremes, is the sort of thing that eats it's self, until whoever is left has lost touch with the people not through ignorance as much as not realizing what the public was doing while they were watching their back. Then when they command alone, they suddenly realize the only support you can get is that which ...

I will give a true story account of what I have seen at one small company that I worked for. It might give understanding to some. But those who never experienced it, will always block this out and pretend all is fair in the world.

I worked for a small company of 200 employees. The pay was not high and the conditions were close to sweatshop. The owner of the company decided to outsource half of the work to Guatemala. He got the workers together and told us his plans to save the company from total collapse. He even stated with a smile that the Guatemalans would do the same job for $0.35 that is 35 cents per hour. No wonder we are so hated through out the world. Our rich businessmen think no...

For 6 years I was employed in a civil service job.
There were 2 yearly raises (Union & COLA) plenty of days off, and the majority of my co-workers did very little work. No pride in achievement, 1 to 2 hour lunches, more time shooting the breeze than working. Go home early on Holiday eve's, and get the day after Thanksgiving off.
When I could no longer take being ineffectual at my position, I left. I took a lower paying job with less benefits, no Union, and sometimes no lunch.
The job satisfaction, spiritual growth, and impact I had on people's lives was unbelievably rewarding.
It all depends upon one's perspective in life, and getting one's priorities in order.
There's much more in that "gap" than money.
