The doctors of convicted South African fraudster, Schabir Shaik, confirmed that he is in the final stages of a terminal condition called "life", and that the condition is irreversible. "We can only pray he makes it through the next 30 years," said one.

"Each day that goes past the sufferer loses about 24 hours."

Schabir Shaik, a South African businessman from Durban, rose to prominence due to his close association with former South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma. On 2 June 2005, he was found guilty of corruption and fraud. Zuma was dismissed as Deputy President, two weeks later. On May 8, 2006, Zuma found not guilty of rape. Zuma is the current President of the ANC.

The South African Arms Deal was a US$4,8 billion (R30 billion in 1999 rands) purchase of weaponry by the S An Government, finalised in 1999, which has been subject to allegations of corruption. British and German investigators suspect that bribes of over one billion rand were paid to facilitate the deal.
