This is why I vocally damn the concept of "African-Americans" (or Asian-Americans, or any other national prefix you want to attach to American). Using such a term is divisive and destructive to the concept of a national identity. That's why we don't have such ridiculous terms in Canada. We have Canadians, that happen to be black, or latin, or oriental, or any other collective visual distinction based on cultural origin of the people. When you ask Canadians what they are, we just say "Canadian", and nothing more. That's why there isn't an explosive cultural divide in Canada like there is in the US. We're all the same people, regardless of our "colours". i like that idea! lol- sorry - on the very late comment....I have very limited internet access these days- and am many clicks behind-am working on catching up with everyone though... |
