Bluephoenix4 says: "If a homeless person has a funny sign, he hasn't been homeless that long." --Chris Rock What I'd like to know is when did Gandalf become homeless? Yes, homelessness is soooo funny - AssHoles skwirlinator said:Skwirl this one's for u : Stop Hating Smartasses If u didn't like the post that's fine but u didn't had to put all ur negativity and bashing in the comments, nobody disrespected u here , if it made u angry there are other ways of sayin' so without insulting ppl. LOL, Forgive me for hurting your feelings. Imagine how the real homeless people feel. I've been homeless. With my children and my wife. There is NOTHING funny about it- NOTHING. nobody disrespected u hereI know - just themselves The signs are funny if you are isolated from the cold harsh reality of life. I am to a point now isolated from that reality myself. But the people that are being offended don't have the luxury of looking at these signs because they are too busy trying to stay warm and fed. When your babies look up at you with dirty hungry faces and say " Daddy, when are we going to go home" and the only replies you can think of get choked on that golf ball in your throat. You see the cold cruel world as it really is. You gag out "I'm sorry" and redouble your efforts. I ended up homeless because a 'Friend' said they had a job waiting 1/2 way across the country and that we could stay with them till we got settled. Moved up and they had gotten evicted and fired. Thus, no place to stay, no job, no money, nobody to turn to. I found an abandoned trailer and that gave me an address. Once I had an address I was able to get help. I found a good job and worked my way out of welfare. I held that job 14 years until I got fired on a technicality by a boss younger than me. Now I am back on foodstamps but I have another job and I am working my way back up again. ASSHOLES - We are! Ok , i'm sorry to hear that and i didn't know what u've been through , u can't expect me to knew that before i posted this, still as u admitted the signs are funny, (that was the main reason i clipped them, and yeah as u said funny for the ones who had not go trough that experience ) , i think some of them are fake btw,, the purpose of this clip wasn't to offend someone on a personal lvl, if u want it delete it just say so and i'll dissappear the clip... Anyways what really upset me was the way u answered in ur first comment (much like forum's troll style), if u had answered explaining why it really got u mad instead of adopting sarcastic mode and calling "assholes" to everybody i would have understood quickly. Some homeless people have a quirky sense of humor. Their funny signs are meant to be seen and appreciated, and make a good clip. We are laughing at the deliberately funny signs, not the plight of the homeless. The quotation from Chris Rock is very apropos, and sets the tone for the clip quite nicely, bluephoenix4. I'm afraid i agree with skwirl... I can't see anything funny about homeless signs. Laughing at the signs... well why do they have them in the first place? Is THAT funny? Yes, they may have a sense of humour, but think about it. YOu are LAUGHING at someone in a dire condition. LIke laughing at someone who's dying, starving, being harmed right before your eyes. It is dehumanizing. And laughing at the signs is on the road to further dehumanizing those who deserve better. Especially in the Western world where we are supposed to have so much wealth. "Give me your tired, your poor...." And whether you knew Skwirl was a homeless or ex-homeless person still shouldn't count. We are laughing ... I think this clip should stay up because it allows us to discuss this type of inhumanity that is so prevailant in our society. I have seen so much humor focused on the 'have nots' that my initial response was troll like. I am sorry but I am human and sometimes I comment without thinking. I react poorly when I see indifference and ridicule towards people that are 'under' society. There was another clip not long ago that set me off that had to deal with the study of being poor. It made me feel that people that are in dire need are a conversation topic at well-to-do coffee tables. Its kinda like a photographer that gets the shot of the starving child then moves on without giving it some food. ... Who are we to suggest that a homeless person can't have a sense of humor about their situation? These signs are funny because they wanted them to be funny. The most disrespectful thing I see here is the insinuation that there is one type of homeless person...pathetic, humorless. As the pictures show, this is not the case. I was homeless for a short time, and the folks at the soup kitchens and shelters were not a humorless bunch, I assure you. I would go so far as to say that many of these folks are living on their good humor...and are quite able to laugh at themselves as well as others. I was a bike-mess. for a long time. Some of these folks made my day on a regular basis, and I was h... Not only are they funny... they are intended to be funny Humor got me thru a lot of bad things and still does. Everyone has their own 'bottom' and if you can still laugh at your situation you are not at the bottom. Those signs just tell me they are still able to bear with it and they really don't need help. This takes away from those that really do need help because now people look for the funny signs. The clip should be titled 'Begging for Entertainment' or something. I get the feeling these people are not in as dire straights as the title leads us to believe. These signs tell me "Hey, laugh at me I'm a funny beggar" What (I think) they want: to be seen as the individuals they are, and not as one of the mass of "homeless".What the... The first guy is shaved and trimmed, His sign is a sign and was written in marker. It is obviously a lie and he doesn't want help. He is just a funny guy holding up a sign. I might laugh but the guy that sleeps in the dumpster behind the store probably hates him. The time traveller is making fun, has a stupid sign and is not homeless either. His clothes, shoes, accessories and cleanliness gives it away. The guy in the cardboard box in the alley hates him. The homeless jedi has a pad to sit on, nice shoes, a watch and a drink from a fast food or convience store, and clean toes. The woman in the nearby park wrapped in rags stuffed with newspapers and pawned her wedding ring a year ago would ... Hey...shithead...I live in a 13x15 homemade cabin that can't even be driven to. I have no credit cards. Honestly, I have enjoyed many of your clips, but you have got issues. Are you doing the homeless a favor by telling me that they don't respect me and laugh at my problems (which you assigned me)? Newsflash: most of the homeless were not always homeless. Your earlier comment imparted that there is nothing funny about.......now they are laughing at my bicycle....WTFF?! Hey dickhead - Your homemade cabin has internet access - I don't care if you like my clips or not. I may have issues but they are mine and I like them. NewsFlash - Some people CHOOSE to be homeless. Some people become homeless because they do stupid shit. Hell I'm laughing at your bicycle! SHIT...wrong button... I am offended by your omniscience about the homeless, and, apparently me. Your last comment just came through...beauty. Ummm, well. I guess all your heartfeltness for the homeless kinda dried up there. Poor people on bicycles are funny, right? Anyhow, your comment made extensive use of the word YOU and YOUR (referring to credit cards and lifestyle.) NOT me. Go spout your shit to the homeless guy on the corner and enjoy pulling the tin cup out of your ass. LOL, ok the funny side of a very depressing situation Homelessness is NOT funny! Believe me, all kinds of people are in this boat. Skwirl, bless you for admitting to us your experience. I totally understand what you are saying. To those who don't understand, you better watch out or you could be in the same situation. And another thing, apparently 1/3 of the homeless are our veterans. This is not a joke. I've talked to a few of them. It's heart-breaking to see them like this. Dorine and others, no one is saying that homelessness is funny. No one is ridiculing homeless people. The clip is about signs made with the intent to be funny. To deny that these signs are funny is to deny that homeless people can even display a sense of humor regarding their condition. There are a lot of people who have homes only because they have access to credit or receive welfare/social services or have family or friends to live with (or who they are willing to live with), and so are not really supporting themselves enough to pay for their own housing (the high cost of which is criminal and while it pertains to the homeless subject here deserves its own discussion thread). An awful lot ... The point of the clip is not to make fun of homelessness, but to appreciate the strength of character needed for a homeless person to find humor. It also raises the issue of homelessness at a time where it is not very much in the public awareness - and with foreclosure rates skyrocketing, homelessness must be going up fast too. The people who can still find humor in their situation may not be "at the bottom", and may not have been homeless for very long - but why is that important? You should not despise people who can still find humor and hope. I don't despise anybody except someone who steals from me...which happened this weekend. I DO have a sense of humor. I'm usually the one who keeps everyone in a good mood when things are going wrong. I've seen the funny signs in my city. Some are sad, most are ridiculous, a few funny. I, also, seen some of these people living under the freeway bridges in the cold. I was having a bad day when I saw the clip. My apologies to everyone for jumping on this clip. I was homeless once, due to bad circumstances and not just after a cross country move, but an across the world move. Times were tough, but we never lost our sense our humour, in fact that is probably what got us through. We lived in a van and used to say we lived "just add water" lives, because we could always boil water and make soup or ramen, etc. *LOL* We used to eat on the beach. Two tea towels for a tablecloth across a cardboard box and tea lights for candles and it was actually quite romantic at times. We had bad times, but we always could laugh. Sometimes, happiness is choice, despite circumstances. With my sense of humour, I could very well have made myself a"beer" sign. In fact, I w... |
