what a heart breaker. I'm all depressed now! I can only imagine how many times his parents have run that morning through their minds. "If I'd just said no and walked with him!" "If I'd just said no and walked with him!" "If I'd just said no and walked with him!" "If I'd just said no and walked with him!" HOW SAD!

I well remember that; it filled the news for months. My son was 10 at the time and this story terrified me.

Stories like that still terrify me. My children are grown up and now I have grandchildren. My grandson like to run off and then say he thought I'd left him and he was looking for me. Then people wonder why I yell at him sometimes.

I have a cousin who is a bit older than Etan Patz was when he went missing. He gets driven everywhere, and he has almost never been outside his own yard unescorted. He's almost a prisoner.

One the one hand, while the milk carton program may have done some good (I don't have statistics, but some found some information here). On the other hand, I also feel that it's created an atmosphere of paranoia and a captive generation growing up with rigid limits on their freedom.
