jklugman says:
we are trapped in a constitutional iron cage devised by eighteenth-century Framers who, however wise, had no conception of the role the presidency would come to play in American (and world) politics. The US President should be treated as what Ross Perot aptly called an "employee" of the American people, vulnerable to being fired for gross incompetence in office. Instead, he is given the prerogatives of a feudal lord of the manor who owns the White House as his personal property until the end of the presidential term, with almost dictatorial power over decisions of foreign and military policy.

However divided we might be, most Americans might be persuaded that we would all be better off if future Presidents could face the possibility of a Congressional vote of "no confidence" that would trigger eviction from the White House. ...

Only because of the Constitution are serious progressives engaging in
an entirely fruitless campaign to impeach Bush by describing him as a
criminal.
That pesky constitution again...more mental masturbation by the looney
left. I would be embarassed to be in the same camp as Rosie O'Donnell.

Can't stand to even call yourselves the "L" word anymore (serious progressives). Get a life please!

Sparling,
That comment reminds me of Condolezza Rice, whose name is very clearly of italian desent. He is currently a Republican, but previously a member of the 'Lesbian' party.

Typical. The left backing away from it's ideals only for political reasons. They stand on the sidelines and deride, but take no action and offer no alternative. I guess they don't take the constitution very seriously after all.

The quote in the remark window makes it clear that Sanford Levinson is offering an alternative--that rather than push for the impeachment of Bush, that we push for a more democratic system where the executive can be booted by a vote of no confidence.

I guess they don't take the constitution very seriously after all.
Levinson takes the US Constitution very seriously. So seriously, that he wrote a book outlining how it impinges on democracy.

@ deb.... you mean there's a "Lesbian" party and nobody told me??

As for the rest of these comments...I actually thought the article made some sense against impeachment with some pretty valid points and a reasonable alternative.

*sigh*
Then I read all y'alls' partisan bigotry and realized that it doesn't really matter to most the peeps around here whether something makes sense or not. If L or R here can construe a clip in any possible way to point the finger, they will. (As in the macrocosm, so reflected here in the microcosm, eh??)

Thorne,
I agree with you that the article makes really good sense against impeachment with some very valid points.
As for the Lesbian party, well, I just couldn't resist the temptation
