zasel says: With all the shouting in the U.S. as to how the Canadian system is so totally inferior than the fee based system at home, it is nice to occasionally find an article such as this to clip. As someone who has lived under both systems, and who makes major use of heathcare services, I can tell you without any hesitation, that the Canadian system is far fairer and superior to the discriminatory system in my home country, the U.S. Zasel, what a joy to hear from someone actually in Canada about how health care works there! I am also an American who spent 4 years in a country with universal health care. I type my fingers raw on ClipMarks trying to convince people how absolutely superior the system was. Thanks for the clip! Dulios, it makes me nuts when I hear the right-leaning politicians in the states, piss all over universal healthcare, and refer to is as a Socialist plot, the next step towards Communism. I am somewhat disappointed that neither Hillary Clinton, nor the presumptive President-elect, Barack Obama have not supported single-payer healthcare. But at least Obama's plan tries to make healthcare universal on some level. The Republicans will fight this as if their lives depended on it, but this time I think there will be reform. The reason is that big business is admitting they can no longer pay for the employees health insurance costs, and something must be done to relieve them of the responsibility... You're preachin' to the choir, brother. I actually spent my 4 years abroad during Clinton's first term, so I wasn't around for (or even much aware of) Hillary Clinton's attempts to reform the US system. Of course, it was a smack down of epic proportions. I've wondered if Clinton's moving from the left on health care and gays in the military, and the delivery of such gems as DOMA, might be comparable to Schwarzenegger's moving from the right after he received his own epic smack down by the California voters with the rejection of all of his initiatives early in his first term. Maybe that's what early, first-term smack downs do to an elected leader. In any case, we've been waiting over ... Here is the opinion of someone else that lives in Canada. http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=299282509335931 Did I mention that is the "architect" of the system. Yeah, yeah. Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade, got born again and now calls herself "pro-life". Whatever. Hmm. I just read a story on another clip that said we on the Left have more open minds. I would like to believe that is true. Ken, I'd already read that article. Sorry to be so flip. It doesn't change my mind about the fact that for all its faults, a single-payer system is superior to the American for-profit one. Far superior. Far, far, far superior. |
