Dabei handelte es sich bei 88 Vorkommnissen in den vergangenen sieben Jahren um Totalfälschungen. In 128 Fällen stellten die Bundespolizei beziehungsweise weitere mit der Kontrolle des grenzüberschreitenden Verkehrs beauftragte Behörden lediglich "Verfälschungen" geringeren Ausmaßes fest.
