Excellent. I think both "hello" and "thank you" are terribly underused. I'd also like to see more people say "thank you" in response to a compliment. Too often people struggle with how to respond, e.g. "this old thing?" Just say "thank you." The person giving the compliment will appreciate that. Really, he/she will. I'd also like to see more people say "thank you" in response to a compliment. Also in response to good service or an extended courtesy. Among my daily affirmations is this one: "The more I appreciate and thank others, the more appreciative they are of me." old people. pay attention to old people. most of them are lonely and just want to smile a little. this makes me so emotional every time I hear it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ85Hep0kD0 I just listened again. My eyes are teared up. I don't know why it does that to me? John Prine, Hello in There Lyrics We had an apartment in the city, Me and Loretta liked living there. Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown, A life of their own left us alone. John and Linda live in Omaha, And Joe is somewhere on the road. We lost Davy in the Korean war, And I still don't know what for, don't matter anymore. Chorus: Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger, And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day. Old people just grow lonesome Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello." Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more, She sits and stares through the back door screen. And all the news just repeats itself Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen. Someday I'... cool! I know that song word for word. but then i know about every song he ever wrote word for word. he's one the last of a great breed of singer songwriters. so funny! I got chills reading the words though. that song has such a strange effect on me. I'd say Steve Earl is about the only thing close in this era of folk / americana music. it feels really good to me to say "hello in there" to old people when I get the chance too. try it sometime. |
