hitchhiker08 says: ...certainly 'lifts' the spirit... I rode in one of those paternoster (chain of cabins) in a factory in Sweden. First time I'd ever seen such a thing. furniture for dreams cool! but not sure I would like to go up in some of those. There is another type of elevator missing which would fit in well. When I worked at a major newspaper many years ago, built into the press was an elevator which might best be called a man-lifter. Consisting of a simple loop rising three stories or maybe even four stories right in the guts of the press, it was nothing more than a series of relatively slowly but constantly moving alternating one-man platforms and handholds. Step on one side and ride up, step on the other to ride down. I doubt OSHA would allow such a contraption now, but its small footprint and constant need by the press operators showed how perfectly suited the solution to the problem it was. |
