I was reading an article the other day on Zahi Hawass and he came in for some pretty damning criticism. Seems he's a bit of a tyrant. Nevertheless, the man is quite charismatic on camera. His enthusiasm is contagious, despite being lord of all he surveys.

A while back I caught the end of a program about Egyptian archeology and was struck by the personality of the presenter. When I saw your comments, I "searched" him and sure enough, he's the guy! His website is very interesting if you're into Egyptian archeology. You have to say one thing about him: he's passionate about his passion.

Hope to see some pictures.

The guy is a tyrant as Michelle said. He's calm, intelligent, despotic, a good actor, revengeful and very dangerous. He's one of the most effective personalities who ruined the research freedom and open-minded studies in archaeology field, particularly in Egyptology. He has told to have strong ties with an oligarchy that's called PTB.

I have been watching him since the late 90's and in this period he banned and dismissed over a dozen scientists, researchers, scholars while keeping himself in power over the Egyptian antiquities. His "good mate" Mark Lehner is another "phenomenon" but this is a very long story. Summary: Zahi Hawass is not a kind of guy you'd want as an "adversary", particular...

Wow! Strong words from you Invictus. And, given that you appear to be a man of great diplomacy and tact on Clipmarks, I can only imagine Hawass is deserving of the criticism. So, all is not what it seems; the charm of the man is but superficial. I'm intrigued by him, so I'm going to do a bit of Googling. If you can shed a bit of light in links to his 'crimes' and 'misdemeanours' I'd be grateful. Also, what does PTB stand for, please? Thank you.

PTB is a generic abbreviation for "Power That Be", Michelle. Pointing to a certain "cast" that controls many important "nodes" of finance, politics, international relations, communications, the media and the academic world.

I didn't use the word "crimes" but "misdemeanours" fits better. Keep on Googling, I'm sure you'll find many interesting things about him and his companions/relations.
