This one - although it is called the North Point Water Tower - is not for the purpose of holding water. It houses a giant pipe for absorbing and controlling surges from Milwaukee`s sewer system. In the 1960s and early 1970s, it was a favorite weekend gathering spot for hippies and their fellow wanderers and a site for impromptu concerts. Noise complaints led to the city designating a different location for the gatherings. About twenty years or so ago, I used to live a block away from the ear of corn. |
