I once watched a brown snake (one of the most dangerous), catch and eat a rat here whilst I was sitting on a forklift, it's quite fascinating to see. When I jumped off the forklift, the snake spat out the rat and took off. Later, I accidently killed the snake with the same forklift.
I have lots of adventures with snakes here, they usually survive, though a couple of times, I've nearly had heart failure.

vk2yoc - that story alone is enough to keep me from the shores of Oz; I'm freaked out enough by the Black Widows, here but then I am a sissy Brit

It's not at all unusual for me to walk out the door and almost step on a Black snake, they're venomous but not aggressive, though one did actually jump in the air and snap at me, just bluff, it then ran off as fast as it's lack of legs could carry it.
It's blowing a gale outside, that's why I'm still awake, very noisy, we're supposed to get another dust storm, it's just dawn, so far looks clear.

A bloody snake jumped in the bloody air and bloody snapped at you?! That's all kinds of bloody wrong.

cakebelly, I just uploaded a photo of a younger me, and a friend, (taken just up the road a bit), into the temp section of the photo site, you may find it interesting.
I let him go after showing him some local kids.
There's a much bigger one lives down the back here, photo of him there also, not very good though, only had a mirror lens (no depth of field), lets me touch him, but I normally don't handle them without good reason,.... like I want to bleed a lot.
