It should come as no surprise to anyone that another vet has been treated with absolutely no respect. No wonder the recruiting officers have to aim at the low end of the IQ range/low socio economic areas.

They want to re-discharge him. Why does that make my lips curl?

"Churlish" may be a legitimate description of this administration, but the word doesn't go far enough. I think they'd toss me out of ClipMarks if I used any of the words that immediately come to mind...

Typical anti-war scum remark. You talk about respect for the troops then go on to smear the vast majority of the troops who don't agree with your anti-war views.

There's no smear. He or she is only saying what every recruiting officer already knows.

And ... why is it we're in this war again? We know there were no WMDs, and that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Even the Asses of Evil (Shrub, the big Dick, and Rummy) admitted both points. So, the real reason is ... is ... what is it again?

Q: "Based on what you've read and seen in the media, what is not being said in the mainstream press about President Bush's policies and the impending war in Iraq?" A: "That they are nonsense." -- Kurt Vonnegut, 1/27/03, "In These Times"

He just said basically that every military person who doesn't agree with his point of view must have a low IQ. Some respect for military personnel.

n2, while your dogmatic response is not at all surprising, it is so threadbare and callow as to be nauseous. He made no such statement. As sl0 has correctly inferred, the efforts of the recruiters have in fact been aimed a those who are most likely to enlist based on social need. They find little success in meeting their recruitment quotas in appealing to the supposedly noble notion of this war held by those of better social probability.

I am delighted to learn that the VFW is now voicing their weight in support of the rights of Sgt. Kokesh and his co-defendents in this issue.

My brother (an ex-marine) was almost always on the A-honor roll in school and a member of the National Honor Society. He was a real marine- tough as nails, very smart and determined. Not every service member is recruited from the dregs of society. Pat Tillman sure wasn't.

One has nothing to do with the other. Yes, I know many veterans and before the war, the recruiting standards where above board for all the services (from a former Navy Seal, to a few Marines and Army officers and NCOs that I know). But things have changed dramatically. Now the services, especially the ground combat services are struggling to keep up with an ever unpopular war. Slapping veterans in the face (whether they are for or against the war) won't help matters one bit. The Corp should back away from this one...slowly.

Actually, none of the active duty services are having any problems meeting the recruiting goals. And, while recruiting standards have been lowered, they aren't as low as they have been in the past. When they were downsizing the military, they had to constantly raise the requirements to help them not over shoot their goals. So yes, requirements were higher in the recent past, but they have also been lower, and claiming the military can only recruit those with a low IQ is definitely an insult to the troops.

As for this guy, I seem to remember a military chaplain who was recently fighting to get the rules changed that would allow him to lead prayers or other religious ceremonies at non-militar...
