I am currently reading this book, and I thought I would share my first thoughts: He writes in an optimistic forward looking way, he remains observant of the wrongs of both republicans and democrats, even if this gets him hate mail from his own party. He talks of how to bring the country together and move it forward. He talks of values we all share, even if their is disagreement on how those values should be explored. He is definitely more critical of republicans, but this is to be expected because he is a democrat. But he always tries to make mention that the it is not isolated to the republican party. He feels government should be limited but not taken out of the picture entirely. He feels George W. Bush is a good man, but completely disagrees with his policies.

Overall I am enjoying this book immensely, and it is only confirming to me the correctness of my desire to vote for him in 2008. I feel he would make a excellent president, even if I don't agree with him on most.

And thus we see the power of personality over principle.
The cult of personality is now the national religion.

I just heard Barak Obama speak in Milwaukee. He would indeed make an excellent President. He's all about doing what's right, not necessarily what the "party" tells you to do. The only way our country can gain any respect from it's people and from the world is if we begin to work together. Unfortunately, politics has become an "I win, you lose" drama that does no one any good. There's an old story by Dr. Zeus about the two Zax -- came face to face and neither would move out of the way, so there they stood face to face not accomplishing anything. That's our government now. We need people/politicians who will work to do what's right f, not dig their heels in and refuse to listen to anyone who doesn't belong to their "party."

We really need a true Independent Party - what I'd like to call the MOR (Middle Of Road) for folks that are tired of all the polarization & tacky tricky tactics of Dems or GOP proliferate. However, I don't want some wacky one-issue offshoot from either the left or right. i want a true middle ground where reason rules to better accomplish the most good for our country.

Barack seems to have taken a page out of the play book of John Edwards, another 1st term senator, Barack should invite him to join forces. If Barack could accomplish that & forge a new Independent Party, I would give him his due as a great leader of this country.

It really would be good if you middle-of-the-roaders formed a third party. With such party drawing votes far more from the Dems, the Conservatives and Socialists would be in clearly defined distinction, resulting in Conservatives winning the vast majority of the vote.
