This is an interesting article. I wonder why they make no mention of the theory held by many prominent physicists, among whom, I think, is Stephen Hawking, that the universe will only expand up to a certain point then start collapsing on itself.
Both of these theories are troublesome to me. Then again, I have had no formal education in astrophysics, just the basic physics that they teach science and math majors.
Here are some of the things with which I have issues:
If the universe is continually expanding, what is it expanding INTO, since the universe is finite?
If the universe is going to eventually collapse on itself, at that point, you would theoretically be able to go to the edge of it...

If the universe is going to eventually collapse on itself, at that point, you would theoretically be able to go to the edge of it. What would happen, then, if you stuck your hand out? Wouldn't you expand space around your hand and thus expand the universe?
What's beyond the theoretical 'edge'?
The thing that really blows my mind is the fact that if we had a powerful enough telescope, you could see back to the beginning of time.
