cpltaiji says: Ok, now I have a headache! Ouch. No kidding. this clip is headache inducing indeed, but interesting as well... This is an interesting article. I wonder why they make no mention of the theory held by many prominent physicists, among whom, I think, is Stephen Hawking, that the universe will only expand up to a certain point then start collapsing on itself. Both of these theories are troublesome to me. Then again, I have had no formal education in astrophysics, just the basic physics that they teach science and math majors. Here are some of the things with which I have issues: If the universe is continually expanding, what is it expanding INTO, since the universe is finite? If the universe is going to eventually collapse on itself, at that point, you would theoretically be able to go to the edge of it... It seems easy to say no and express it with such confidence, ignoring the fact that it is used in a generic sense, when there are qualifications which suggest it can be a matter of definition, and may involve descriptions which evolve from understanding we have yet to develop. The multi dimensional character of the universe cannot be pictured or described completely with the information we have. Theoretically, beyond the universe, there is no existence. Maybe trying to find an edge would be like trying to draw a line nowhere. True. But the deeper question isn't about where it all 'ends' but rather where and from what, it all started. You can't get something from nothing, it ALL had to come from somewhere/something. Ponder that. 11 Dimensions are beyond what our brain can cope with. I'm not sure how easy it would be to describe the first 5, but 4 are keeping me pretty busy at the moment. They theorize that transdimensional intersecting media described as 'Branes' as in mem-brane pass through each other. As their dimensions are variable they are void with respect to each other unless, there is an exact dimensional correspondence where the force of the collision and its precision can be enough to blast the energy through a singularity that has blown a channel between a pre existing 'alternate reality' and the nowhere that our universe is expanding into. It is only a theory, but it is enough to give your mind another tw... Geez pokkets, that' a Hell of a mouthful first thing in the morning! |
