Good advice. Makes sense, except for one thing. My parents did all this stuff right, and yet sex and drugs -- maybe not tongue studs, those weren't around yet -- still "seemed attractive." Occasionally still do. Valid point, enbar. Sex and drugs are still attractive. So are some of my co-workers. That doesn't mean I'm going to do them, however. I guess the point is that wisdom can prevail in these situations, rather than being driven to make poor choices through a "failing heart", as it were. I completely agree. I think it's a question of teaching kids to appreciate pleasure but to make intelligent and moral choices about its appropriate use. That's different from plain-and-simple puritanism. |
