We have become a nation of idiots.

The proof of my statement is in the thousands of stories like these.

Poor kids, they don't stand a chance at normal.

I just tell my granchildren the same thing I told my children; eat your vegetables and fresh fruit. Nothing is bad for you in moderation but even the best food can be bad if you eat to much.

This is unfortunate, though still the exception to the rule.
There are far more parents poisoning their children with processed by-products of manufacturing labeled as 'food' than there are over-zealous parents causing obsession with health.
I worked in the health food industry for a long time, and have repeatedly noticed a tendency for people to find any excuse--any defense--to keep buying the crap that's on sale at their local supermarket. This article will no doubt serve as fodder for this cheap-food cop-out. The lobbyists are working 24/7 to sell your children any colorful over-flavored industry waste that the FDA will call 'food.'

I still believe that white sugar is the true gateway...

Good point. I think it's just good common sense to limit bad foods and try to eat more fruits and veggies and grains and of course get enough vitamin D. My youngest is a vegan Robjustin and it's a whole political thing and I have to tell you it drives me insane! Of course she is old enough to make her own choices and I've told her my feelings because I've seen her really tired and grumpy over that particular diet. (Please no vegans jumping on me because I still support her choices)
But I agree with you. For years I could not get cabanaben to stop bringing junk food into the home. Luckily my two daughters just would stop eating when they were full but it drove me crazy to have all that stuff around.

I forgot to say that I worked in Nutritional Services in health care for 10 years and I learned a lot about food and diet so I know exactly what you mean, Rob (my nickname for you). I saw the effects of uncontrolled diabetes and heart disease and the health problems of obesity. But food is a pleasure and it's very difficult to change the culture of eating. It is also difficult for the poor to eat healthy.
