The Japanese sanctify this day as one that is sacred to the ancient Japanese goddess of fire named Fuji (hence the Mount of the same name). Fuji is also highly regarded as the grandmother of Japan and is revered with celebrations and offerings in her name all the day today. Why not light a fire for your own dear grandmother on this special day as well? Take any green taper (green being the color of growth and blossoms, the family tree and roots) and place it on any surface in front of a picture of your dear one. Then, anytime after midnight the night before (and definitely ONLY while you are home) light the candle and let the fire energies burn brightly signaling your own love and respect for her. Say a prayer, write a poem or just sit in silence for a bit in front of this candle, quietly giving thanks for the ties that bind. And, once you have sent the good vibes granny's way, you can go ahead and blow.
