I don't care which party it is or who it might be. This thing ('stimulus package') is so huge that it would take an army of monitors to maintain true accountability.

I think many Americans might support the efforts behind the 'package' if they truly believed that it wasn't throwing good money after bad and that bad investments, bad management, and pure corruption were not going to be the main profiteers of all our money.

As to the idea that Republicans want the project to fail so they can look good...well, I find that highly offensive. I, for one, do not. I think it was a stupid idea. Even the current Administration acknowledges it doesn't know what all's in it as does the very Congress responsible for it. Only stupid people sign on the dotted line without knowing the obligations it will entail.

If republicans had only been that worried about pork spending when they were in charge then they might still be in charge. It's a shame that only the minority party ever seems to care about spending since the money isn't being spent on their pet projects.

I think most republicans want our economy to turn around without playing politics, however I believe most agree this stupid spending spree will not do that. I would love for this massive debt riddled bill to succeed but I live in reality and do not give it a chance in hell of working.

I feel the democrats refusal to listen to republicans and history in fixing our economic problems was purely political on their part. Their hastily contrived plan many view as unrealistic will do nothing constructive but it will increase our debt, raise interest rates and only hinder economic growth.

When it does become apparent this bill was a major bust, it can and should be viewed as a major defe...

Congressional Republicans are returning to their districts to tout the stimulus that they voted against. Senator Kit Bond of Missouri has gone so far as to advertise "his" plan to bring jobs and affordable housing to his state.

Seems they're playing both sides of the fence on this one.

Hopefully they will be more discriminating and careful. One GOP Governor said that within the 'package' is unemployment payments to part-time workers!!! That's just dumb.

It's not dumb. Food stamps and unemployment benefits are the most stimulative parts of the package. For every dollar spent on food stamps, the economy gets a $1.73 return; for unemployment benefits, there is a $1.64 return on every dollar spent.

Many states already offer unemployment benefits to part-time workers, a full 2/3 of whom are women and primary caregivers, by the way. Increasing and expanding these benefits will help women and children survive. That's not dumb, either.

I don't want to paint people with a broad brush; especially since I will be receiving some HH Care assistance as I bring another invalid parent into my home and I will be the full-time caregiver. Her insurance & medicare will help with a hospital bed and a nurse to check in on her for an unknown time-frame.

However, I have stood in the grocery line and seem grown males stand with their grannies as she uses her food stamps to buy food for those guys. Another time, a mother with 4 little ones, used her *real* money to buy beer, a bottle of wine, ice cream, 2 bags of cookies, etc.. and her food stamps for the staples like bread & milk. Something wasn't right. I know there will always be pe...
