There's a snarky saying that has been around the Army (maybe the entire military) for a long time: "If the Army had wanted you to have a family, they would have issued you one!" That just about sums up how families are generally treated in the military community. It's Soldier, First...Family, Second.

I wonder what happens if the mother chooses to breast feed or in the case of some babies the doctors recommend breast-feeding. Certainly they must give them a waiver?

On the World News last night was the story of Lance Corporal Greene of Massachusetts (outside Boston) and the sacrifices Families have to make in times of great conflict. He and his wife were expecting a baby...and going to the birthing classes together when he got deployed.
They set up a laptop so he could be there for the birth and coach his wife via satellite from 7,000 miles away in Iraq! They had a healthy baby girl! It was odd because there was a slight delay, however, he was at least able to "be there"...and his lovely wife is grateful saying it made all the difference in the world.
