thisnamecantbetaken says: If you're out diving and you see that big dark murky ominous shadow coming closer, if you don't have time to get out of the water, head for the bottom. Sharks attack from below and up, so get yourself flat to the ocean floor and wait for it to swim away. Stay calm, don't panic. Remember you have to totally over-exaggerate the size of the beast later, when you're at the pub, bragging about how you survived your ordeal. It's the custom. (All who have ever fished, will understand this rule. I love "get medical attention" Yeah, better remind folks to get that arm sewn back on! *LOL* I swam with sharks (by accident) and its both a trilling and scary experience. Suffice it to say I got out of dodge as fast as I could. Me too! Twice! A piece of advice: Never go snorkelling near whaling stations or fishing jetties. *LOL* . Thats a given. I found myself on the ledge of a giant drop off/reef with a black tip reef shark circling above me. I didn't know I could hold my breath for so long! Wow, be glad you weren't in opposite positions or you would have been dead meat! Attacking from "hidden" down a drop off point (ledge) and attacking upwards at their prey is their favourite tactic! <shudder> You were lucky!! That's a given.I was just little! The tons of beautiful shiny blinking hooks and sinkers and fishing tackle were just too tempting. I just had to go in after it. Kids... It must have been a 4-5 footer, but to me it look twice at big. It was his (or her) home, you gotta respect the hood! 4-5 footer, but to me it look twice at big.It was 8-10 feet. (See rule mentioned earlier.) you gotta respect the hood! You got it dude. Better yet stay home and enjoy the pool Actually, you don't need to exaggerate! The shark will look MUCH bigger whilst he is checking you out as a potential snack. Just tell your mates at the pub what YOU saw--they'll be impressed! remove yourself from the water!? i def like the stay home and enjoy the pool comment!!! i'm going to go read about something that can't eat me. All you have to do to avoid an attack is swim way faster than the person you are with. Only works when you are not alone. Yes one should dive/snorkel alone, but its so peaceful out there.... |
