Some very good questions, indeed. Just their opinion and yes, it is a religious issue. More attempts at mudding up the moral waters and endless contemplating of the proverbial navel. A fetus has it's own DNA, seperate and different from the mother's and father's, whereas the semen and ovum have the dna of whom it embodies, to compare a fetus to these two things is really grasping at straws. If this is their argument, it is one of the weakest ones I have heard. That being said, in the US, abortion for convenience is the most common reason as opposed to medical necessity and/or rape, outweighing the latter two by far. With the newer technological advances, such as 4-D sonograms, the question of "is this life?" are changing dramatically. Their ridiculous argument is twofold. 1) confusing living organisms with human life, ergo dying skin sells, then, must be killing human life too. Absurd. 2) "no theological argument" against abortion? "Thou shalt not kill" is the basis of it, which forbids all unlawful killing of human life, before or after birth. (Yes, many "christians" are hypocrites in failing to apply the same criteria toward unjust wars unrelated to real self-defense, like Iraq where 655,000 Iraqi souls have been murdered, who never waged an attack upon America, but were only invaded. But hypocrisy never negates the truth). Natural law, as well as biblical, also advocates the preserving all of life. Even ani... In terms of human biology, the clipped article is poor. Talking about "the semen before it fertilizes" and "the ovum before it is fertilized" in the context of abortion is a red herring. And "all the millions of embryos that fail to be embedded" are admittedly not yet human persons, but at the latest after being successfully implanted in the uterus, developing to human persons is immanent in them. Poorness marks the clipped article also in regard to the knowledge of religions and theologies. Though being neither an Evangelical nor a Roman Catholic Christian, from my religious and ethical point of view (and according to my understanding of rights) it is certain that We are the protectors and transmitters of the democracy of the unborn. Killing them before birth is not good sign. So out of this great "respect" for human life, teens will continue to conceal pregnancies, and dispose of the "children" in the trash. Or -- these children will be raised in unfit homes and be breaking into our homes, mugging us on the streets, or randomly killing us as part of a "gang ritual" So out of this great "respect" for human life, teens will continue to conceal pregnancies, and dispose of the "children" in the trash.I'm not at all sure that teens are the bulk of those seeking abortions, not in Ireland anyway. kkcapricorn said:Aha, that is your attitude? A conglomerate of angst and hatred towards children and juveniles? Would you like the society to apply a sort of social "euthanasia" or social selection to the unborn children of underprivileged people?? I wonder what is graver unsocial: the mindset your statement shows up, or those neglected, depraved youngsters you are afraid of. ... I am not religious, but believe in a womans right to choose. I would have a hard time having an abortion if I could even have a baby, (I'm a guy), but due to my personal values I would struggle with that decision. I do think there should be some point where you can't. I don't believe an 8 month impregnated girl should have an abortion unless it threatens her life. I do not think banning abortions is the solution. In the U.S. people did go get illegal and often dangerous abortions or did them themselves. Again, its a moral issue. Its a a religious issue for those whose moral compass is directed by religion. Laws should never be initiated by religious values and organizations. They should ... I consent to all aspects of your statement, dck. Somehow, I see the religious right as having much, much less concern about the survival and well being of a born child (unless it's about protecting the tyke from the influence of the homosexual agenda and planned parenthood). For all of those good folks it will be Mission Accomplished when Roe vs.Wade is overturned and abstinence only is the only sex education our young-uns will get. Operation barefoot and pregnant baby. |
