While we're counting let's not forget the 4 million Vietnamese and 50,000 plus American soldiers sacrificed in that other war the US waged and lost. If the US wants to win respect as a bastion of democracy and freedom it could start by investing in social development and large infrastructure projects in countries where population growth, lack of development and a falling standard of living create a setting that is ripe for fundamentalism. You can't fight a war without someone sacrificing their lives or, would you rather just give up? Projects are nice and if we devoted half of the "bail out money" to North Korea and Iran, I bet they would stop making nuclear weapons and just love us. 1.3 million Iraqis did not commit crimes and they're dead too. |
