BitDrifter says: These vertical farms would be put in ubanized centers to reduce shipping costs and the eviromental footprint. I WAS ALWAYS LOOKING ABT THIS....FINALLY GOT An interesting concept that is worthy of exploration. In the end, however, I doubt its practibility. Staple crops (corn, wheat, etc.) would not be financially viable in such a setting, so one has to question whether smaller crops (lettuce, carrots, etc.) would justify the large capital start up required of investors. The energy usage would be massive, so the proposed offsets could be marginal -- current solar technology would not provide all that would be required. There would also be serious health considerations even if the proposed livestock were limited to chickens, so it seems we're back to produce crops only again. Still, interesting idea, but the current tech may not be available. love the idea |
