enbar says: One of Wise Bread's writers points out that the nastier Ann Coulter is, the more money she makes. Would that work for the rest of us? As the YouTube video shows, the CPAC audience sure loved her "faggot" comment (www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxgVuB3TyaU) Conservative radio thrives on this concept, unfortunately, it is all how society perceives these folks so ultimately we're more nastier than anyone else. Oh ya, conservative talk radio is mean, but liberals are just harmless fluffy little bunnies. Maher and Franken and all the talk show hosts at Air America are just poor innocent victims of conservative hatred and never say anything even the slightest bit controversial. Funny how Air America has been a total failure... apparently liberals aren't interested in that kind of rhetoric. Anyhow, though, n2sooners, maybe you're just responding to arifsali, but seriously, do you see anything about politics in this clip? Actually, as long as we're on the subject ... I never listen to "liberal talk radio," if there even is such a thing. What have Olberman, Franken, Maher and the rest said that's as bad as Coulter? This is not meant as a challenge ... I see this accusation thrown around all the time, but so far I've never seen a quotation to back it up, except for the one where Maher noted that Cheney's death might save others' lives. Well leaving politics aside, at least for the moment, it is indeed much easier to become wealthy in our society if one is able to suppress one's conscience, or even more so if one does not possess a conscience. i think it would be nice to completely remove the words "conservative" and "liberal" from our collective vocabularies. They have become nothing short of convenient labels used to stereotype and divide people. First, yes my reply was to arifsali. Second, it doesn't just apply to radio. Franken does a lot more than that including being an author. Maher is on TV. Conservatives pretty much own talk radio, but there are a lot more liberals in the media and on TV. And there are always the internet blogs. On top of that, it doesn't just apply to politics. After all, who is the most popular judge on American Idol? Third, getting rid of liberal and conservative would only mean people would use different words. left-right, capitalist-socialist, neocon-moonbat..... And they did a poll recently which showed it wasn't politics or politicians splitting the public, the public really is split, very few peo... I like Materialists and Idealists. They are the best descriptive terms for the culture of thought in America and the World for that matter. The only problem is so few people know what they mean. n2sooners, "Fluffy bunnies" might be a bit much, but seriously, has Al Franken ever said anything along the lines of what Coulter and Limbaugh say on a regular basis? Honestly. I don't think that liberals are necessarily nice people, but I think they tend to go out of their way to avoid saying something offensive (which, in turn, makes them look wussy rather than kind) but the kind of vitriol that I see coming out of Coulter's mouth has never, in my mind, been matched by someone on the left. Lefty bloggers don't count as much, because they don't reach as wide an audience as Coulter. I don't think that Maher counts, because he's actually a libertarian. Thanks for linking to my article! Hmmm, Franken calls lots of people petty names. Heck, he called Rush a big fat idiot in the title of one of his books. He also suggested Rove and Libby be executed for treason. And I don't care if you count Maher, he is still a liberal. Michael Moore has been invited to attend and speak at many democrat events, want me to dredge up some of the crap he has said as well? And how about Al Gore and any other democrat who has compared the president and conservatives to Nazis? The big difference? Lots of conservatives came out against what Coulter said while Franken is running for office (and lots of libs wish Gore would too). Speaking of Moore, can't wait to see that new documentary about him. A... "Big fat idiot" - yeah. Wow. That's vitriol for you. I mean, shocking. I still don't think it comes close to anything the right tends to say. Although I have to admit, occasionally Ann will say something and I'll think "Wow. Exactly." It's not her outrageous quote so much as her extremely shoddy "research" that riles me up about her. Re: Gore - ' "The administration works closely with a network of rapid-response digital Brown Shirts who work to pressure reporters and their editors for undermining support for our troops," Gore said. The term "Brown Shirts" refers to Nazi supporters in the 1930s and '40s. ' I'm going to go ahead and say that Gore was comparing a conservative network to a... You know what's awesome? My mad HTML skills. Doh. Well, I guess anyone who thinks calling those on the other side Nazis probably can't find any fault with what those on their own side say. Heck, he called Rush a big fat idiot in the title of one of his books. The book made a good case for it, too. |
