They have probably enough money from what has gone missing since the invasion begun. Though one hopes that was shared to help survival, not personal wealth. The noise from Iraq has been all anti American. The neighbours would be happy to help, just to get the Americans out. Then again, Israel won't be happy if the Americans leave and they have to justify their murderous behaviour without friendly witnesses.

We could use that money here in the U.S. to help feed a lot of poor hungry Americans.

The U.S. military presence is already an illegal occupation under moral law.

Sounds like the U.S. is resorting to black-mail in order to keep its military-industrial gravy train on track.

More info about the current SOFA deal with Iraq (Status of Forces Agreement).

SOFA's are a scam to begin with, an attempt for the military, for Bush to make a treaty deal with Iraq but claim it's not a treaty: Claiming it's more like a 'contract."

Doing it this way, using a SOFA, is done to prevent the terms of the deal being considered by Congress.

Treaties (deals between nations) are suppose to be reviewed and approved by the U.S. Congress.

More details about this SOFA with Iraq are here, at: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-iraq29-2008oct29,0,1139514.story

The treaty being offered Iraq is like all the 167 broken peace treaties offered to the American Indians.
I think that's a wise observation. When writing on the history of US interactions with Iran - which directly led to the theocracy in place there now - it reminded me so much of interactions with native Americans. It seems to be a theme in such dealings.

Another one is "We're doing this for you!"

Yes.
It's easier to kill or dominate people when you first trick their mind. Like the Jews were told they were going to take "showers."

America tells nations the same thing: we're good for you, we'll make you safe, we'll bring you freedom and democracy.

It's quite a trick to tell your citizens you're out to spread freedom and democracy and have them believe you, while you're supporting dictators and kings and overthrowing democracies and elected governments you don't like.

Pakistan's President Musharraf, the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein when he was fighting Iran after the Shah was gone, President Mubarak of Egypt, The Saudi Kings, etc.

But, of course, the people's election of Hamas was...

Right you are! That General was Major General Smedley Butler, USMC, who was, at the time, the most decorated Marine in US history. After he retired, he devoted himself to researching the wars he'd been in, and concluded he'd been used as a thug for American industry. I think his book was War is a Racket.

Wow, masbury. That read exactly like it was written today, and not in 1933.

Smedley Butler is also the guy, who revealed the Fascist coup plot to overthrow FDR and take over the White House.

A plot in which Prescott Bush was involved. (GWB's grandfather.)

Allegedly involved, I should say.

The coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt with the help of half-a-million war veterans. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush’s Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression.

Wow!

I couldn't find that general's name and have never heard about this FDR plot.

Wow!

I was actually beginning to feel a little bad about the ruthless way I sometimes describe this country.

Yet the facts are there and it's not a pretty picture. It's certainly not Disneyland. It's not like 'the 7th Cavalry coming to the rescue."

Maybe things were better before WWII (if you weren't a slave, Mexican, or Native American) but since then it's been way worse for us all.

Vietnam War was started on a lie. (Gulf of Tonkin Incident).

This War in Iraq was started on a lie (Deliberately fabricates intelligence linking Saddam to WMD's -- that yellow cake-Niger falsehood).

Nice enough living here...

I recall a quote from Oliver Stone's movie 'Nixon' :

Nixon shuffles back alone, coming to a stop in front of a larger-than-life, full-length oil portrait of JOHN F. KENNEDY. Nixon studies the portrait, pads closer. Looks up.
