ouyangwulong says: Okay, so I think this will be my least controversial clip ever. I believe that the time has come to stop shooting other people's pet cats. You may call me closed minded. You may call me a radical. But is say there is right and wrong, and if you shoot other people's cats and then make clothes out of them, then you are wrong. Further more, from now on, I promise to boycott all Swiss garments made from cat fur, and I hope you all do the same! By the way, I'm dying to know the link between this and traditional Chinese medicine! Are they sure they didn't mean Cantonese cooking? So, what do you hate about the Swiss? Who are to make such sweeping moral judgements and make fun of peoples names? Oh, only kidding, I agree with you. I'm not sure that the fur trade is way to go (Davy Crockett really had a cat skin hat) but I have seen the results of the hunting by town and feral cats around Australia. My attitude is firmly that the only good cat is a dead cat. I'm not sure that the fur trade is way to go (Davy Crockett really hadThat is going to be popular. Just to state a fact, I knew Asian cultures have a lot of habits food eating wise that are definitely not to my taste, but that people would make clothes out of cats is disgusting. Perhaps that is a learned prejudice but it is not one I ever want to unlearn. Actually, there is an argument that culling cats is necessary to save endangered bird species. But killing an animal for its fur is barbaric. Uh, I should also clarify my stance: I am against cat POACHING, and there by, probably also cat "hunting." Culling feral cats is controversial, but it may be necessary. Most towns do the same thing, basically, by impounding and euthanising unclaimed cats. However, I blame people for the feral cat problem - there aren't naturally wild cats, they are a fully domesticated species. Ferrel cats come from people buying a cat as a toy and then getting bored with it and "setting it free" which really means, abandoning it. When you buy a domesticated animal, you take on a responsibility for it. Cats are part of human society, not nature, and we made them that way, so we should keep them here. I am ... By the way, Yanceducat, don't worry about Asian culture. As far as I know, Asians don't hunt cats at all. That's mostly a Russian thing. Although the Cantonese will eat just about anything, I've never heard of a Chinese person actually eating a cat. I don't think the author had a clue about what he was talking about. In China skins and bones, etc. from BIG cats is valued in superstitious folk religion. The principle is that the more dangerous something is, the more potent its body parts must be. Thus if it's poisonous or capable of eating a person, it must make you really powerful. By this logic, eating a cat would hardly be useful - in fact, it might even be a step in the wrong direction.... ouyangwulong, I definitely agree. I was being a wise-ass, that's all. I do agree that feral cats can be a very serious problem. They breed very rapidly (I remember my female "kitten" surprising me by giving birth in a closet) and can be home to fleas and parasites etc. That is a given. Allowing sale of cat fur however, is a invitation for sad events. It is debatable whether I'm still human myself. My cat has practically become a part of me literally. Day or night she is demanding to sit on my lap or lay on my chest. I love her dearly but I do hope she discovers there is a world outside the door this summer. Well, if you live anywhere near Switzerland, Yanceducat, then, it is my sincere hope your cat stays safe at home, or goes out well armed... Actually that's the NRA position: We shouldn't ban cat hunting, we should simply arm cats with semi-automatic assault weapons so that they can fight back! Action Cats! Well finally the NRA is right on a position! I'm in the US but I taught her not to wander around! |
