nedhamson1 says: Wonder what happens to the families? Just like in the days of slavery, they are split up - see the story! nice how the clip makes no mention of them being PEOPLE. it says males and females like they are just animals. Easier that way. Easier to vilify, harass and exploit. Ratilfar and RVNurse - both right - creating images that make you think of animals or something that is not like you, was used for slaves, Jews, whoever is considered to be "outside" and to be feared. They lose their families, property and belongings even their bank accounts. I have visited a "detention" center in California and I can tell you they are prisons and those held there are treated as criminals. It usually takes 30 days or so for the deportation process during which time you have no shampoo, no telephone access (unless family or friends can find out where you are being held and send you money). It is heartbreaking to see. The one is visited held 1200 people at a time. Many had been living and working in the US for 20 years and more... Carrie - thanks for the comment - guess you're glad to be back in Kerry, eh? Yes!! My daughter who was seventeen at the time wanted to leave the US so it was a very easy decision for me to leave. We are both very happy here. My daughter now attends college which is free here - and I ask myself frequently - why we didn't do this years ago!! The US has changed too much in recent years. Sad. |
