There's really nothing substantial Obama can do, short of dropping troops in there to help Mousavi, which we all know he won't do. Let's also remember that Mousavi may be a foe of ah-I-got-my-job-back, but that doesn't automatically make him a democratic leader & USA friend. If Obama does anything to even verbally help Mousavi & co. - it'll be immediately used against him and the USA, and that's WITHOUT any appreciable help to the cause, so that doesn't make much sense. Let's also remember that Mousavi may be a foe of ah-I-got-my-job-back, but that doesn't automatically make him a democratic leader & USA friend. If Obama does anything to even verbally help Mousavi & co. - it'll be immediately used against him and the USA, and that's WITHOUT any appreciable help to the cause, so that doesn't make much sense. It was clear from the get go that short of their army turning against the government - the only thing they accomplished (on a physical level) is getting a bunch of their people killed and a few days off work, that's about it. Yes, there were demonstrations and yes there was #iran hashtag on Twitter, but that's meaningless if you look at the real accomplishments here.

So, Obama doing nothing didn't give ah-I-need-a bullet any ammunition against the US, although I'm sure they'll still try to blame the US, the world saw what it saw and so did everyone in Iran.

It's clear that ah-ma-wack-job isn't as solid as a leader and if there was any kind of conflict that arises due to nukes from them confronting either Israel or the USA or both - clearly a bunch of people in Iran will not cover his behind, which is certainly positive news. Before this unveiled - I didn't think there was this level of opposition.

The clerics there clearly screwed up and underestimated the situation, letting Mousavi run in the first place, but that's history now.

If Obama's thinking was along the lines that I pointed out - kudos to the Pres then. We don't want Iraq escalated (although it sure appears somewhat so lately) because of a few words of no consequence thrown at Iran. Nor do we want more problems in Afghanistan. And we know that our little short-man of Iran can certainly orchestrate such movement with relative ease
