zasel says: I remember in 2004 when the Republicans loved to smear Kerry as being a "flip flopper." I guess they had a change of heart about the meaning of the term. They have Mitt Romney, who sold himself as a champion of gay rights, and a woman's right to choose when he ran against Ted Kennedy in the Massachusetts senate race. They have John McCain who decried the hateful rhetoric of Pat Roberton and Jerry Falwell, and now falls all over himself trying to please them and their parishioners. And now we have "America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani trying to sell himself as a conservative. A man married three times, a huge supporter of gay rights, a man dedicated to a woman's right to choose and other liberal favourites. Now that he wants to be president, he claims he is not in favour of gay marriage but supports same-sex unions and benefits. He says he still supports a woman's right to choose, but also says he would appoint strict constructionist judges to the courts. Flip flop anyone? How is that a flip flop. I disagree with Rudy on most of those social issues, but he has not flipped on them. Romney has said many things in the past and people are trying to make it out like he has flip flopped. Actually, he has said some contradictory things in the past which has to leave one wondering where he really stands, but that isn't exactly the same as flip flopping. My guess is that he was pandering when trying to get elected in a very liberal state and is closer to telling the truth now, but that isn't exactly a good thing. McCain is a flip flopper. That is the reason he won't win and why he just can't bring in the dollars. He has a fairly solid core, but he will never get beyo... |
