Djiezes says: 80% of Flemish priests: want to abandon celibacy 58% want women to be able to become priests 1 in 5 has trouble with celibacy in his personal life. Average age of a Flemish priest : 62 What is that "1500 Euro brute a month" thing at the last paragraph, Djiezes; salary of a priest? If so, they earn quite good I suppose. The last line says: "In spite of troubles concerning a heavy workload and a mediocre salary of € 1.500/month brute, a huge majority says they're happy with their choice for priesthood." And € 1.500/month brute isn't that much actually. You lose about 40% on that. So that would be around € 900/month netto. & They are getting paid by the federal government. (by the Ministry of Justice actually) Actually, I look a bit further & found this page on vacature.com: (again in dutch, so I'll translate). It says priests earn about € 1050/month netto. But you should add a "variable, casual salary", because a priest earns €52/ marriage ceremony for example. A priest also gets a residence, so he shouldn't have to pay rent or buy a house. So yes, I suppose they earn quite good; especially when lots of people choose a catholic marriage or burial ceremony. |
