To save face the American side had to deal with the issue of the settlement freeze not as a bilateral American-Israeli matter, but as part of a larger package. They conditioned Israeli compliance on Arab readiness for instant normalisation. This formula made it easy to press the claim that the Arab reluctance to start normalising must be blamed for Israeli rejection of the American demand of settlement freeze.'

If reading Israeli or pro-Zionist newspapers they make it sound like Obama has a "dilemma," and press the Zionist idea that the Arabs must 'normalize,' relations and/'or make other concessions. And that Obama's initiatives have failed.

!? - this is the zionist spin or propaganda. It doesn't match reality.

Rather than Obama's entry into Middle East politics failing they remain steady, unchanged, and ontrack and a finger of blame is clearly pointed at Israel for expanding any settlements.

This is quite a dramatic change in U.S. attitude (and not without it's price of growing Jewish lobbyist opposition).
