willhelm says: Maybe someday The US, North Korea and France can join the rest of the modern economic world in this revolution. For one of the freest countries on the planet, we have some of the most draconian tax laws and we still have the leading economic market. So just imagine if we were to reform the tax system what we could accomplish. I agree with the over all statement. Unfortunately tax laws were extremely vague when this country was founded, which made them extremely open to corruptions and bureaucracy. What really burns me up is the fact that what they're doing now is discouraging workers by punishing them for being productive, they're disenfranchising them by outsourcing jobs to other countries, and encouraging those who don't work by giving them our money. They take our money, slap their name on it, and give it to someone who isn't being productive. Then the politicians get the credit for it (by the way, and this is just a thought, but isn't that what we accused myanmar of doing with the international aid they rece... Everything was screwed up by Wilson. jmjoness -- thy weren't all that vague -- income taxes were quite plainly illegal. Then amended the Constitution (#16) in order to create an income tax. At the time the amendment was written, many politicians wanted to cap the rate at 10%. Unfortunately (and ironically) that was considered such an outrageously _high_ figure that surely no congress would dare to raise it that much! They successfully argued against the 10% cap by saying that it would encourage legislators to raise it as high as that (which would of course be a bad thing). I'm not that familiar with the issue so please forgive my ignorance, I need to do some more research on the subject matter. I've heard people argue that even the IRS is technically illiegal (Only congress is supposed to collect(?)), and I've even heard it argued that any kind of tax is supposed to be illiegal. It's starting to dawn on me how pathetic it is that I don't know this, given the fact that this impacts my life quite a bit. |
