Here's the little girl's story, as told by the photographer. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4231020.stm these are unbelievable.. and truly uneasy. Yes very uneasy...but thank you for sharing this. The final photo, that of a starving child w/vulture, is one of the most famous photos in the world. From reports, the child did manage to get away. But it haunted the photographer. The photographer comitted suicide 3 months after he received the pulitzer prize for that photo. And for thwe record, after he took the photo, he didn't have to 'Intervene' and touch the child. All he had to do is pick up a big ol' rock and nail the vulture. What would have been so difficult about that to do? He evidentaly later realized the error he had made and then made another, by taking his own life. A tragic end to a tragic situation. Agreed. But vultures aren't that easily discouraged. No one can really say for certain, unless we'd been there personally, what we would/could have done. It's sad that in todays world this can be a picture of real life. When are we all going to wake up and take care of our own? how had I ever missed this before? In nations such as this little girl's, the warlords, etc have complete control. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just moving in and doling out aid. The catch-22 is that we create the market that creates the crime cartels who then gain power and create these situations. A viscious circle YOU are the person in the picture? I am happy you survived your ordeal! Yes, That would be a cool background picture. I use a pitch black one tho. The top image of the wave coming around the lighthouse base - this is NOT a photograph folks. This is a photo-realistic piece of artwork (a painting). I used to have a print of this artwork on my living room wall. Sorry but it's NOT real! The others probably are.... How heart-wrenching it is to see the eyes on the little girl and not being able to help her and knowing her fate. ...and how chilling it is to see the vulture behind the starving child.... Indifference is an ugly choice...disease or no disease someone should have help that child, like The Real Napster stated "All he had to do is pick up a big ol' rock and nail the vulture." The pictures/photos of both the children are very haunting. Very interestings foto, thanks the title says i all. these are fascinating! good find. I can't imagine not helping that child . the photos of the children made me cry. And for thwe record, after he took the photo, he didn't have to 'Intervene' and touch the child. All he had to do is pick up a big ol' rock and nail the vulture. Your horrible. That vulture had as much right to live as the child! How could you do that JUST to save ONE child!! Its not right! The one of the fire with those poor animals really distressed me. Omg that was sad. And the girl was kinda sad too. Imagine having your legs ripped off ugh that would have been horrible! so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so sad that the kid is starving |
