Godfrey Daniel says: Apart from the religious issue this song could be rejected for its sheer stupidity. Of course there are more ridiculous lyrics in pop music, but among those that are inexplicably taken seriously, and as having "importance", this simplistic drivel has to take the top honors. I do love the melody though, and that wonderful suspension at the point of the word you in "y....o.....u might say I'm a [self-absorbed peter pan] dreamer...... GD, you never cease to amaze me. You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Do you realize how many kid's minds have been warped by those lyrics? They've "grown up", chronologically only, to be hollow simpering narcissistic pacifists who actually believe that there is "nothing to kill or die for", and with no sense of gratitude and understanding that they live their lives of freedom comfort and safety because of those who understand there are such things. Word up GD. Why is it that saying anything bad about the Beatles feels so Blasphemous. Other then a few songs on the White Album I have never been a big fan. I don't know..I thought it sounded like elevator music before the musac remix..but you're right..there is no accounting for taste! all we need is love..Doop de doop de do... there is no accounting for taste! My Grannie's favorite saying. I LOVE The Beatles!!! John Lennnon too. But this Lennon song has never been one of my favorites. I certainly understand the School's decision. Ok, have to totally disagree with the above... We're talking about one of the Beatles here! If minds were warped with the lyrics - mine certainly wasn't. I can't say I admire the man for his political savvy and actions, but I love him to death for his music and even some lyrics, which as he pointed out himself were just that - lyrics... not meant to be changing anyone's life. Manson supposedly was under the influence of his lyrics - is that John's fault? Definitely not! There was one of the movies about him, where this bum comes to his house and starts yammering about how much he tried to live by what the songs said and Lennon refuted the notion, indicating that these are songs, nothing... |
