Just how Christian is America?

Aside from what studies show about what we do and do not know about Christianity or how often we go to church, it is how we behave that is most telling.

Jesus summed up his message for his disciples when he said the way you could tell the righteous from the damned was by whether they'd fed the hungry, slaked the thirsty, clothed the naked, welcomed the stranger, and visited the prisoner.

We are ranked near the bottom among developed countries in government foreign aid.

We are the most violent rich nation on earth, with a murder rate 4 or 5 times that of our European peers.

Having been told to turn the other cheek, we're the only Western democracy left that executes its citizens, mostly in those states where Christianity is theoretically strongest.

Despite Jesus' strong declarations against divorce, our marriages break up at a rate at just over half.

Teenage pregnancy? We're at the top of the charts.

Just how Christian is America?

Who cares if anyone remembers the 10 Commandments? There's a lot of stuff that Moses came up with that was hardly Christian during that time (like the "Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth" nonsense.

Jesus gave us 2 new commandments to replace the 10 (because people were less moronic in his time than they were back in Moses' time). Obey the 2, and you've got the 10 covered, and then some.

(Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart

and

Treat other people in the manner in which you would want to be treated

Simple, yes?)

Simple? Yes. But, the point of the article is that many American's who call themselves Christians don't follow even these two commandments and still call themselves Christian.

That is very true. That's a point I've been trying to get across time and again; that just because a person uses the "Christian" label, it doesn't automatically make them Christians.

Attending a church every Sunday doesn't make you a Christian.
Paying your tithes regularly doesn't make you a Christian.

What makes you a Christian is if you live the life of a Christian. Your relationship with God is between you and God, but if you aren't living your life by the philosophy of Christ (as epitomized by the two new commandments), then you are a liar.

Alas, the world is full of liars; many of them giving actual Christians a very bad name.

Heck, I've been given very good reasons to dislike Chris...

The government isn't Christian, the people are. Go check the numbers for individual charity and I think you will see a big difference. Plus our military frequently offers aid, but that cost isn't counted as aid.

There are a lot of people fraudulently using the "Christian" label, but the number of actual Christians is a minority.

And the only way that the military "aids" is by blowing up homes. breaking in in the middle of the night to terrorize people's families, and snatch their fathers and sons off the streets to lock them up for no good reason. That is, when they aren't killing civilians outright, or treating them like animals.

You really are a clueless troll aren't you? I was in the navy and we did many humanitarian missions where we provided medical care, food, and shelter to those in need.

Hah! The Troll dares call me a troll. How ironic. For every humanitarian mission, the US military carries you 5 missions that oppress, kill and destroy native people and their property. Or are you afraid to watch the news channels that aren't owned by the big military contractors, n2sooners?

You are truly a clueless, naïve fool who thinks his fascist nation is the greatest thing since sliced bread, aren't you? That's so cute.
