There is never a shortage of that which is needed if the free market is allowed to produce and protect without restraint ( I do not believe in zero restraint - I am just speaking generally).
People in poverty are a commodity for those in power. If they did not exist, the side (dems) that wants to subsidize poverty would lose power and the side that wants to build self-reliance, individual responsibility, personal liberty, individual sovereignty, compassion, would increase power. The impoverished are a political football the Left will never allow themselves to fumble.

The fact is that libertarianism unleashes the greatest amount of human compassion while statism suppresses it - This is evidenced by Obama's recent attack on charities by removing the ability to deduct charitable contributions from tax liability. Charities almost universally give more bang for the buck, while government lacks real compassion and efficiency. If you give a dollar to charity, most of it goes to helping someone. If you give a dollar to government about 95 cents goes to help the government.

My opinions are not generally an indictment on people or people's conditions. My opinions are on the hate-wing and government contrived dependence. The goal of Progressives is to make those in poverty comfortable in their poverty. I see this as the greatest form of political manipulation and societal greed. This is why studies have shown Conservatives give far more than Leftists to charities. The are not compassionate people, they just play one on TV. Both Obama and Biden have contributed practically nothing to charities.
