He and his co-author, Cesare Parise, tested 12 volunteers in trials during which an image flashed up on a screen at a slightly different time to one of two tones - one low-pitched and one high-pitched - being played.

There were two sets of image: a large and a small black dot, or an angular and a very rounded shape,

Chef Cantu has already been doing this. http://www.karensheets.com/schwarzlose/about.html

I learned about it at the taping of Morimoto vs. Cantu on Iron Chef America. Cantu's technician sat next to me in the audience.

Certainly, there are tasteful and distasteful uses of language.

BTW, possibly related: scientists have recently confirmed that goldfish can remember and distinguish between different pieces of music and composers. I wonder whether a person with refined taste would be able to distinguish between eating a goldfish raised on Beethoven and one raised on Schubert?

I believe the person would have to have very refined taste. No wrapping this little delicacy in the daily fish-wrap and serving it with salt and vinegar and a side of mushy peas. Oh no my friend, only the finest china for this ground breaking study
