Reminds me of the bones in the inner ear. Bones are kind of ceramic, and do the same sort of conversion. I wonder if they'll manage to grow the enamel in teeth in a test tube. (Maybe they can) That sounds like good material for a percussion device. There are so many things we think we have discovered that have been part of a natural process.
With nanobots we may be able to build ceramics atom by atom, but there is no doubt a decent DNA algorithm that can do the same thing. Perhaps in coral or chiton
