Apparently not. Civilization just can't leave the world alone. Dear celestialdancer, violetnightshade and tanyamm You have expressed your ready belief in a press release of Survival International titled 'Celebrity Resort Threatens Isolated Tribe' While I am sure that your sentiments are above reproach, I do wish to take the time to bring to your notice that this press release is actually completely false and irresponsible reporting on the part of Survival International. Do visit www.barefootindia.com for our response to this defamatory action of Survival International, and make up your own mind after reading it. The tribal cause is a good one, but must not be overtaken by shoddy groundwork and Survival International must realise the serious... Dear Samit, I actually do feel I am in a position to agree with Survival International. I have had the good fortune of living in places that were pristine and for the sake of economic survival opened up to tourism (eco because they were run by national parks). Unfortunately, even this becomes a blot on diminishing habitat worldwide. Look at what has been happening in Antarctica also. I care about your employees yet I am also aware that this earth is on very tenuous ground and most of this is due to the impact of humans. We need to keep spaces of habitat clear of (modern) humans so that the habitats can continue to thrive and species diversity continue to proliferate. Tribal people who ... Dear Samit, I offer this as an inspirational alternative. It is something I see as being beneficial at that much larger level that is what is required "now". Please watch these videos and may it inspire productive genuinely beneficial abundance and wealth for humans, tribal people and wildlife: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoQZcTN3pEQ&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_diLzkIp-4U&feature=SeriesPlayList&p=26AA322A5C404A2B There are other videos in this series you may find interesting also. Warm regards pop for airing both sides of this issue so well We reject Barefoot's claims that Survival's press release was inaccurate. Any development so close to the Jarawa's reserve will pose a grave danger to such an isolated people. The fact that Barefoot's guests are largely an international clientele who will have stepped off airliners only a few hours previously, and will therefore be carriers of a variety of infectious diseases from all corners of the globe, hugely increases the risk. Survival will continue to vigorously oppose Barefoot's resort. To Samit of Barefoot, we say: your clients should quite simply not be there and your resort should be closed. -- Toby, Survival International www.survival-international.org Thanks for your update Toby The Blue Yonder and TravelToCare.com believe Survival International's accusatory and ill-worded press release appears to be a bullying, malicious and misleading campaign based on sheer ignorance and carelessness! Ironically, we have found Survival International's blatant exposure of the Jarawa tribe on their website to be distressing, distasteful and exploitative. We stand by our partner, the Barefoot Group, who is engaged in a legally and responsibly managed business. A mischievous campaign such as the one Survival International has launched against Barefoot, based alone on emotions and celebrity name-dropping can bring in sound bites, but should lose credibility if the facts are not ... I stand by Survival International because I know without a shadow of a doubt that this world requires a big change in the way we approach economic sustainability and the deeper, long term, impact of resorts in threatened habitat. In this instance the Jarawa people are also affected. You might be big with words, you might be big with money but you do not convince my heart. I reaffirm my support for Survival International's efforts. — Comment removed by clipper — Dear Celestial Dancer - thanks for sharing your youtube clip + Jordan innovation - I will have a look... ...however now I see your last message with links to two sites has been been removed by Clipper and I have received this notice - surely there must be a mistake...
