Unbelievable, as if this country doesn't have any greater concerns that our elected officials are wasting precious time on tripe such as this. So much for separation of church and state. Some one explain why this needs a resolution and why they believe it is so important.

Interestingly enough, they had similar bills recognizing the Islamic holiday of Ramadan and the Hindu holiday of Diwali, neither of which received a single no vote. And of the 18 democrats who voted either no or present on this bill, all but one voted for the bill recognizing Islam and Ramadan (which this bill was patterned after), and that one wasn't there for the vote. The lone republican who voted present on this one voted present on the others as well.

I noticed 50 present but not voting. Whats that all about. For or against, I can respect the ones that commit one way or another.

n2sooners, did either of them have this type of wording:

"Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;"

"(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;"

It was 50 not voting or voting present. That breakdown was 40 not voting and 10 voting present. I don't think you can just not vote if you are there, so I am assuming the 40 simply weren't there.

n2sooners, did either of them have this type of wording:
Are you saying that you believe that the founding of this nation had ZERO roots in Christianity and that Christians and Christianity had NO roll in the founding of this nation? Or are you saying you don't support the roll Christians and Christianity had in the founding of the United States?

I'm saying that your examples are not on the same level as this, which implies that this is a Christian nation.

Where does it say 'Christian nation?'

"Implies," n2sooners. It's a fine line being walked here.

It seems to me that by defining Christmas as a Christian Holiday, and Christmas is the only Federal Religious Holiday, then this is an endorsement of Christianity as the Federal Religion... if A = B, and B = C, then A = C!
