I think we’ve seen just a total redefinition of what patriotism is. There was a time when patriotism took a form of personal sacrifice; of giving up one’s own comfort, safety, for the collective good. Now in 2007 America and in Washington, DC particularly, the definition of patriotism has become totally ideological. If you support an aggressive foreign policy, invading other countries, then you’re a patriot. with absolutely no personal discomfort involved at all. It’s simply taking a rather rigid ideological position and with no consequence for yourself.

It is estimated that our nation’s wealthiest households are now paying federal income taxes at a mere 17.5 percent rate, after exploiting all available loopholes. America’s richest households in 1943, after exploiting all available loopholes, paid nearly 78 percent of their total incomes in federal tax. Americans during World War II, in other words, expected wealthy households to pay more than four times as much of their incomes in wartime taxes as we do today.
Money just one example of the sacrifice Americans should be willing to make and should the least important as our sons, daughters and friends die for a pipe dream. But what do we do we bitch at the mere mention of the word tax and cheer when a politician promises tax cuts. 1% of our nations population is all that is willing to sacrifice there lives for this so called war on terror. While a large number sit at home with both hands banging the war drum. Safe in the knowledge that they will never have to put their so called convictions to the test with their own lives. Sacrifice, put up,shut-up or lets get the hell out.
