BobbyRutan, with all due respect, I really don't think that Nazi analogies are very useful in this context. They never illuminate and just produce flame wars. 1.

Good grief! What will spring from these people's fiendish imaginations next.

Maybe this is a good thing. The Department of Children and Families has gone Wild stealing certain color kids for their money making, illegal, kid stealing, rampant heresy lying, gone wild and using our tax dollars without anybody bringing down the house on them. Somebody has to stop them. They've violated every Amendment ever written and are getting away with it.

With all due respect jklugman, the attack on the rights provided by the constitution hasn't reached Nazi levels yet, but then again when the brown boots burned the Reichstag they hadn't reach the full level of their deeds yet either.

BobbyRutan, a lot of governments have curtailed rights of its citizens, and most did not come close to the evilness of the Nazis.

Personally, I think it is quite clear that what the Bush administration is doing is wrong, and I don't need to draw analogies to the Nazis to prove my case. Just laying out what exactly they're doing is good enough for most people.

The Department of Children and Families
Hate to tell you this, crabbypatty, but there is no federal Department of Children and Families.

He may not be -I hope- following down the Nazi's path but he's dangerously reaching Chavez' and Ahmadinejad's dictatorial control over the country.

Effectively, what Bush has ordered is a propaganda officer for each department. While I do agree with your point, JK, I can't say that BR is beyond the pale with a fascist allusion, as this move by the Bush cabal is certainly a major and most unfortunate step in that direction. While we won't see the ceremonies, I can't help but envision a private dedication to the powers of George Bush being held for each nominee, not unlike Goebbels pledging his support of Hitler.

For those unclear on this notion of American Fascism, I suggest spending some time reading about [url=http://oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm]The Fourteen Poi...

personally I don't believe this is threatening at all underneath the Bush Administration-- they will use it for economical reasons regarding businesses. However, if left in place after he leaves, an authoritarian president could manipulate this power substantially (say Hillary Clinton?). Its fine for the time being...but only the future will determine if this was a stepping stone to something worse.

Thank you for the clip, jk! I'm sorry I can't say the same for many of the comments, (as usual).

This is like communist Russia. Every department, organization, and unit had a political officer, to make sure that the participants were politically correct. It's not just power mongering micro managing stupid, its evil and an example of the arrogance and insistence on conformity to political realities, not ideological realities. To those who say that in republican administration it will be ok because the decisions will be based on economics, I say, wake up and smell the coffee. Political appointees will make decisions for political reasons, economics and ideology be damned. This is another scary way this administration is trying to enhance the
power of the white house and eliminate barriers to it. Lest anybody
think otherwise I would have the same objections to any democrat who
tried the same thing. Its outrageous.
Right on!

Sadly, this thread so effectively illustrates the abject lack of intellect here at my favorite internet playground.

Willhelm, why don't you bless us with your superior intellect of why we would need every regulatory agency to be supervised by a Bush appointee.

We await your brilliance.

My comment was not about the fact Bush could name an appointee to "oversee" regulatory agencies. It actually would not bother me no matter who was president. These agencies may become useful at that point.
My point was about the irrational fear that results from the illusions and perceived machinations that are spawned out of paranoid ignorance. Perhaps the issue is debatable, and I welcome that. However, this thread has turned into idiocy driven by hysteria. "Be very afraid" ? Pathetic display .
Bobby Rutan, judging by your comments here and elsewhere, I doubt you could recognize brilliance.

Thorne, good example of lack of intellect. Your argument from loose consistency makes my point. Earth is my favorite planet. That does not mean it does not abound with ignorance nor does it implicate me. You can have your fun, but it is at your own expense.
