Tower Records and CBGB - bad news, same weekend...it's like we're taking all the heart and soul out of a heart and soul business (if there really is such a thing)
Ibought my first CD at Tower Records-- it was Billy Joel- the double disc greatest hits-- i was probably 9-10-- in '85-'86- don't really remember which one-- but for me, Tower Records had the 'kid in the candy store' effect.

Whoa! Tower is all over the Sacrament area. I suppose this doesn't look good. hmmm... wonder if they're having "Going Out of Business" sales via their website.

Last one there, turns the lights out!

darn, there goes my brain, thinking faster than my fingers can type. That should have read "Sacramento" not Sacrament. LOL Sounds religious or something.

Bummer. I wonder what actually killed them. People buying (or pirating) music online?

i think they are having sales--- but it's nothing compared to internet prices of music--- i think they said in the article that Beyonce's album is like $13.00 as opposed to it's usual $15.00 or something, but Amazon is selling it for $9.99.....
how do you compete..???

They're another example of companies not moving ahead wit h the times. They should've been with their own online sales effort before Apple or at least right after, then they'd certainly have a good chance, considering their name and clout. But the old management strategy of "we've always made wagons (for horses to pull), so we'll continue regardless of Mr. Ford" did them in in the end.

It's too bad in a way. That's where I bought my first record, it's was Chicago V and I was thrilled to death of being able to just walk into a store and buy a Chicago album, that's where I spent countless hours listening to new music and just browsing things that I've missed behind the Iron Curtain.
