The difference in tactics is telling (4.00 / 1)
In Iraq we are fighting a guerilla insurgency made up of numerous different groups, most of which are also fighting each other. It is a hit-and-run type of fighting made up of IED's and random attacks on moving groups.

What you are talking about in Afghanistan is an organized assault directly on a military encampment. This type of structure and cohesion on the part of the enemy should have been annhialated several years ago.

Time is a Weapon for Guerilla's (0.00 / 0)
Hell anything that can be used is used in Insurgent Warfare by the Insurgent, the Higher tech an opposition is the more lower tech the Guerrilla fighter will go, won't be expected by the high tech folks and by the time it's figured out how to combat they've moved on to other forms.

Not that I think they needed it, but we gave the Taliban and others the Time to better organize and develop tactics. They don't need to recruit nor preach jihad, everytime we blow up a wedding party or a family or their homes...................etc., we're doing the recruiting and preaching.

Even though Iraq is as you describe for many of these groups they still have a...

And Bradley was talking about Korea, but that truism became even true for Vietnam and doubly so for Iraq.

Has an American army ever been worst equipped? Ever fought a war that from early on was clearly unwinnable and unjust? Until it is machine and not men that go to war then morale will be critical. With deficient equipment and health care and even more deficient commander-in-chief then they are fighting with one arm less.

There's an Irishism that if I was going there then I wouldn't start from here. Events in both Iraq and Afghanistan remind me of that. A new good president will be reluctant to enter combat on foreign soil making the world a more dangerous place. What a cockup. Shoot is too good for Bush. Long waterboarding is needed!

@righthand.

I can answer your first question. That would be Vietnam.
I could tell you the number of days we went without rations. Because the supply copter couldn't get to us.

I remember having to go threw a small village and passing by a little school with my penis and balls hanging out of my jungle rotted fatigues. That was a good day though. The kids and the teacher had a good laugh. And I gave them a little dance to make it even better.

I'm sure those soldiers that were in Korea would have similar experiences. And the ones who are fighting this one will have their own.

Like Rumsfield said. you go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want. And he is the one who made it this...
