zasel says: This column by Paul Waldman, in the American Prospect is a must-read for anyone who finds themselves baffled by the ridiculous level of questions asked at the presidential debates, and other face-to-face interviews. He chooses Tim Russert as his primary target in this piece, which is quite apt considering the way Russert handled the questioning during the Democratic debate October 30. I was only able to clip a tiny bit to give you an idea of what it is about, but I urge you to read the entire piece. It is well worth your time in my rarely to be humble opinion. A decent journalist would not stoop to such banality, unless he was letting them satirise themselves. He has done himself no favours as he should be wiped as far as intelligence is concerned. He, to me anyway, seems to be sucking up to the evangelists. I recall seeing a video on You Tube entitled Bin Ladens Cave according to Rumsfeld which was an excerpt from Russert's Sunday program Meet the Press. Russert and Rumsfeld show a detailed drawing of a super sophisticated bunker in the mountains of Afghanistan and go on to explain that Bin Laden and co. have many of these loaded with weapons, computers, telecommunications systems, etc. Of course they have detailed drawings, but no photographs. They go on national TV and announce that "many" sophisticated military and technology installations have been built in these remote uninhabitable places in the mountains. It wasn't very believable at the time and since BBC... I agree completely about Russert, who appeared to shill for Rumsfeld and the neocons. My Clipmarks has that video the comment referred to entitled "Al Qaeda Does Not Exist", which shows Russert talk with Rummy about the "cave network", which was a lie that the film uncovers. (It was included in BBC documentary the Power of Nightmares). Dennis Kucinich read his Articles of Impeachment against Cheney in the house yesterday. In them he made reference to numerous quotes from Cheney as evidence the VP was lying to the American people to sell the war in Iraq. There were multiple references of these quotes being taken from Russert's - Meet the Press on several different dates/occassions. |
