Wild doesn't even begin to describe the mirrors.

Anyone ever wondered what you'd look like if you were standing inside the center of a sphere mirrored on the inside? Every view would be mirrored back on itself but at every angle. And so would "that" image, ...

If you were inside a mirrored sphere and you "flicked your bic" would the light generated by the lighter reflect forever within the sphere?

You would absorb the light as each photon crossed your path (that's my theory), but what if such an experiment could remove the light source as an obstacle while making the walls reflect in such a way that no light is absorbed by it either?

Would the container forever hold the light even after the bic is off?

Well, shyah, that was my question. Obviously YOU couldn't be in there to absorb the photons, duh </Napoleon dynamite voice>

Keeping along those lines, then, it might be possible to carry a canister full of light. And along those lines, it might be possible to pump enough light into such a canister to a natural limit (like filling a cup of water).

But would the light be in the form of photons or waves? But how come I intuitively know (think) that as soon as the light source is extinguished, the light in the canister (as in the sphere) will be gone? But I can't figure out why.

That's a good point. A 'light' battery. Interesting idea. As you point out, anything in there that would absorb the light would 'drain' the battery so not only would the inside need to be perfectly reflective, you would also have to find a means of putting light into the canister fast enough that it couldn't leak out before it was sealed.

I wrote "The Naked Scientist" about the mirrored sphere. They put the question on their forum to get some answers. Some of them far extended my little brain, but some also brought up things that I would have never thought of. Take a peek: The Naked Scientist

Thanks for the link Aces. That was some interesting stuff. I liked the idea about it being dark because light would travel around the surface, but only as a unique idea, I don't think that would really happen.

Then again these guys all sounded like they were loads of IQ points over me

I agree, and for the same reason, but reached the same conclusion. It almost sounded like a stroke of genius

But what most intrigued me was that the obvious thinking power of some of these folks didn't really agree on a definitive outcome!
