Iran's dictatorship is the heart of much of Islamic terrorism and violence throughout the Middle East and the world. Ridding the world of that evil transcends the more narrow concerns about Iranian nuclear development!

President Obama, behind the curve of even Democrats in his own party in the House who voted unanimously for a resolution sponsored by Mike Pence, (R-IN) to "Condemn the ongoing violence against demonstrators by the Government of Iran and pro-government militias," finally some additional fortitude Saturday afternoon and released the following statement:

The statement above is a subtle shift from Obama's statements earlier in the week where he repeated the phrase "respect Iranian sovereignty" which is code for respect the dictatorship of the Mullahs. Today's phrase "If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community" is a subtle, but significant shift.

Obama's latest declaration is still a long way from an unambiguous statement of support for the protesters. Rep. Mike Pence, author of the House resolution, made this contrast:

Pence on Iran: "Reagan didn’t tell Gorbachev 'That Wall is None of Our Business'"

"The President has the right to draw the line where he chooses to draw it but I am someone who believes that when Ronald Reagan went to the Brandenburg Gate, he did not say ‘Mr. Gorbachev, that wall is none of our business.'

Obama could insure Amademajad and the Iranian Theocracy 10 more years by talking tough (that's how we got the last 8 years and Iranian nukes to boot). Listen, you guys had your try. It failed. Recognize superior statesmanship when it is so obviously in front of you. Do you really hate Obama so much that you'd rather see your country fail?

I love how Willhelm is calling out Masbury like this or this. It is not clear to me how Willhelm has any leg to stand on when it comes to criticizing others for insufficient support for the Green Revolution. He did, after all, advocate letting Israel bomb Iran's nuclear capabilities, which would surely have squelched any possibility of seeing the Green Revolution anytime soon.

Pakistan: Another Bush/Republican failure now showing promise and some modicum of success under Obama. Amazing, in only 6 months.

N. Korea, there is a hard nut to crack (nut being a key word here). Kim Jong Il has been ill and is attempting to keep the royal family in charge by appointing his unknown and youthful son to the throne. Internal politics has N. Korea playing their typical hand of US, Japan baiting. This one will require some really fine tuned, nuance filled, maneuvering.

Of course the Kim Jong Il regime's hand was strengthened by Bush Administration belligerence. But they are wise enough to know that the Obama approach is very dangerous so they have to amp up their bellige...
