righthand says: "Christians often associate parables exclusively with Jesus and believe that he invented a new method of teaching. But anyone familiar with the Talmud will recognize Jesus' parables as the common form of rabbinic expression in the Second Temple period. Jesus was a trained rabbi who thought like a rabbi, taught like a rabbi, and spoke like a rabbi. "Jesus instructs us to love our enemies, it is based on the biblical precedent of Exodus 23: 'If you meet your enemy's ox or your enemy's ass going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. "Jesus famously says: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." This pronouncement is actually a classic rabbinic statement. "Ann Coulter's stomach-turning comments about how Jews "needed to be perfected" by becoming Christian demonstrates not only her own bigotry but her abysmal ignorance of the teachings of Jesus. Judaism was the faith practiced by Jesus for his entire life, and from which he never wavered." Judaism was the faith practiced by Jesus for his entire life, and from which he never wavered."That's kind of funny. A god practicing religion. Isn't that redundant? I always thought that the Sermon on the Mount was about sex. Jesus does not anihilate the old testament, the Tora, but fullfills it. I think you should look at the Bible as a book that keeps on telling the same thing, the truth, from different points of view, different angles, different contexes. When you think, you understood some piece of holy writing, meditate more about it to discover higher levels of truth. The big difference is, that christians are no longer under the law, but fullfilling it. They have the freedom to act different as the law prescribes, but being in communion with Spirit, Jesus and God, your acts will lead to the good, as long as you are honest and let act the holy spirit. "Ann Coulter's stomach-turning comments about how Jews "needed to bepopped for this comment alone Jesus said "think not that I came to abolish the law...but to fulfill". Everything he taught he most always appealed to the Hebrew scriptures. However he also taught new things, and claimed much more. He claimed to be the Messiah (Christ) whom the prophets testified of. "Moses testified of me", and also claimed equality with God, "I and the father are one." He also claimed to be Lord of the Sabbath, and after his crucifixion (which he fortold fulfilled scripture) resurrection (something no prophet ever did), he met the disciples on the "first day of the week", which later they called "the Lord's day". After 70 AD the sabbaths and ceremonial laws were no longer observed, being abolish... Jorjor: I always thought that the Sermon on the Mount was about sex.ROFLMFAO! Ok so Jesus was jewish. That explains why his mother was quoted as saying "You never call anymore. You never write."Nice girl Mary, are you sure she's jewish?" Anyone remember the old joke - Q: How can we tell that Jesus was Jewish? A: He lived at home until he was 30, he went into his father's line of work, he thought his mother was a virgin and his mother thought he was god. (Yes, yes, I know. But what good is a stereotype joke without the stereotype?) Jesus does not anihilate the old testament, the Tora, but fullfills it.Tell that to a cop who pulls you over. "Hey, I didn't break the law, officer, 'I fulfilled it'"! What does that mean...fulfilled? Besides, if Jesus is god, who's going to punish him anyways? Eh? Or, I have rules for my dog. Do I have to "fulfill" those rules if I change my mind? I dunno. I'm just trying to wrap my head around what people say to get out of making sense. I've not been all that preoccupied with Ann Coulter, but her statement about Jews doesn't strike me as original. From the Pope to Billy Graham, Christiandom is predicated upon the view that Jesus is God .. and that anyone who rejects this tenet is lost, including Jews. Kauaiguy, forget self-made authorities of Christian show business and their dogmatism, and consider searching the original (maybe you'll want to follow him thenceforwards?). Look what you started, righthand! I popped only for the article and your comment .. not all the other religious rhetoric. Look what you started, righthand!LOL Faust: Look what you started, righthand! I popped only for the article and your comment .. not all the other religious rhetoric.Shocking isn't it. Ye, One thing that I love about ClipMarks is out tolerance and tendency to go off topic without getting out knickers in a knot. See we now have SEX in with God, Christians, Jews and whatever you are having yourself. Mines a Guinness, thank you. And running with the diversion in the best Irish tradition, could I pose a question. If we had more Sex and less God, would the world be a better place? Is God against Sex or is it just the god-huggers, you know those who aren't getting enough and substit... righthand, U R so cute!!!!! I luv U. righthand, U R so cute!!!!!Johanna_G, I luv me too and U. You say the nicest things. But seriously if you don't love yourself then what chance is there that another(s) can love you? I worry about those that can love a god who demonstrate that they do NOT love a human(s) or even an animal. If you don't love yourself then what chance is there that another(s) can love you? I worry about those that can love a god who demonstrate that they do NOT love a human(s) or even an animal.See, my friend, this is just one central idea of the sermon on the Mount, and methinks, it isn't the least of its two ideas. Thank you. mmmmmhu@! "If we had more Sex and less God, would the world be a better place?" - righthand Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply ..." - God Looks like God is indeed encouraging SEX! And ... "Mines a Guinness, thank you." Can I join ya? LOL |
